Dividend capture history
Each row assumes you bought at the close on the last day that still qualified for the dividend (the day before the ex-date) and sold at the close on the payment date. The result adds the dividend to the price change in between, so a price drop bigger than the dividend means a loss.
| Dividend | Buy by (close)iWhat it is: the last day you could buy the shares and still get the dividend. Shares bought on the ex-date or later do not get it.Your buy price: the closing price on that day. Every % in the row is measured against this price. | Ex-date (close)iWhat it is: the first day the shares trade without the dividend. Why the price drops: new buyers no longer get the dividend, so the price usually falls by about the dividend amount on this day.The % under the price: how far the price moved from your buy price. | Payment day (close)iWhat it is: the day the cash dividend is paid into your account.Sell price: the table assumes you sell at the closing price on this day. | Dividend receivediWhat it is: the cash paid for each share, in AED.The % under it: the dividend yield on your buy price: dividend divided by the buy price.Example: AED 1.00 on a buy price of AED 12.35 = 8.10%. | Price changeiWhat it is: how much the share price moved from your buy price to the close on payment day, without counting the dividend. | ResultiWhat it is: the dividend % plus the price change %, both measured against your buy price.Example: +8.10% dividend and -5.00% price change = about +3.10%.Gain or loss: if the price falls by more than the dividend, the result is a loss. |
